Wild Geese in the West (final draft)

I watch them through

the kitchen window

swarming in the blue

immensity

beyond

the dwindling

winter branches

can anyone speak

of them without failing

the grace

those great birds

their massive

lift and rise

their trajectory

each subtle shift

of light eclipsing a swath

of prairie grass

foreshadowing

the drama that plays

upon the land
