Begin the day naturally

And eyes bitten out of stone

Cast another glance toward the bay.

Then you get a clear clean sound

Drums beating

Everybody getting excited

And flapping their white wings

Into the dust.

If only they could absorb the weight

Of those metaphysical congregations

Rowing in unison across the ocean

Of their contagious miseries.
